During class, the boys continuously
made inappropriate comments about
the girl in the video we were watching.
However, I made a singular statement
about the smiley face I drew on my
hand, getting in trouble for “disrupting
the class”. This opened my mind to the
raging gender disparities that have
existed throughout history. I realized
that if I wanted to see change, I would
have to be the change. Creating FEM
alongside Zihan has helped me to
understand the underlying issues
within our community, finding solutions
to alleviate those issues. In FEM, we’ve
dedicated ourselves to strive towards
our mission everyday: promoting
feminine equality by providing
resources for those in need.
I noticed an underlying disparity when

at my afterschool tutoring center, and
they did not have any. Soon, I realized
that most facilities do not offer free or
accessible feminine hygiene products
for those in need. Knowing how
expensive period products can be and
how public facilities often serve as vital
resources, I was inspired to improve the

in biological research, I wanted to make

a key aspect of this initiative—hoping to
